first prague post

Goodness. I've taken a long time in writing this first entry. Prague has been pretty incredible so far, the work load has been staggering but I've managed to deal with it. A couple days ago the cold finally came. I should actually call it The Cold because it's in a class of its own. I've never been a long johns kind of guy but it's looking like I'm going to join the ranks fairly soon. The TEFL school isn't the janky place that I had some suspicions it would be. The instructors are pretty hardcore about the work and they make us teach twice a week to Czech students as well as a grammar lesson to our fellow TEFLers.

I'm slightly embarrased that, being an English major, I had no knowledge of things like the past continuous, future perfect, phonology, sentence composition, etc... I'm learnin' though, I think.

Brent, Ben and Dave are going to live in an apartment together in the Vinohrady section of Prague. That's Prague 3. Our future apartment overlooks a giant TV antenna tower that has metal babies crawling all over it. I think it's probably the best thing I've ever seen.

Here's a picture of Dave with Christina. Dave is grand fellow.

'till next time. -BRENT

Just going to throw out three albums I think are pretty exceptional.

1) 65 Days of Static - The Fall of Math (2004) - download

They make like a collision of Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky, only more frantic sounding with some chalk-on-nails glitch stuff as well. Kind of scary and epic.

2)Ratatat - Classics (2006) - download

This album isn't even going to be released until sometime in August, I believe. It's better than their last album by bounds. Choice cuts are 'Loud Pipes' and 'Lex'. Sounds a bit like the Rapture, but with a little more funk-a-dunk.

3) Tokyo Police Club - A Lesson in Crime (2006) - download

Moderately spazzy indie-rock darlings. Lyrics you can sing along to for sure. It's just too short, really. A more garage/pop sounding Arcade Fire vibe.

If the download links don't work just let me know and I'll try and redo 'em.
